2023 Chinese Immersion Summer Camp

What another fruitful summer camp experience! During this camp, each of the four classes has had ample opportunities to enhance their Chinese language skills while learning about different topics, building new friendships, and reconnecting with old friends from summer camps past. Each day, the students engaged in a variety of interactive activities, including singing and dancing, conducting experiments, and creating different crafts and cooking projects. It was not uncommon to walk by an open classroom door and hear the joyful sounds of students laughing, singing, and enthusiastically using Chinese to communicate with each other. The students’ hard work culminated in a performance on Friday, June 23, where each class demonstrated their learned Chinese language skills, creativity, and newly-gained knowledge.

The youngest students in the Piglet Class covered a large range of topics, including different types of weather, summer, and picnics. The students spent their days with us learning valuable life skills while immersing themselves in different hands-on activities. The students in the Rainbow Flower Class learned about the story of the rainbow flower, which they retold and performed for their audience on Friday. The Firefly Class, who learned about the importance of light in our world, taught us about different sources of light and their many uses during their performance. The oldest students in the Magic Energy Class, who learned about different types of energy sources during their time at summer camp, then concluded the performance with a bang. Through frenetic choreography and high-spirited rapping, the students told us the story of a competition between different groups to decide which type of energy was superior - gasoline, wind, water, or nuclear.

What a productive and pleasurable summer camp experience for everybody! We can’t wait to see everybody next year!
