Throughout our students’ academic journey at Cornerstone, we always emphasize the joy of finding fulfillment from hard work and personal growth. Before receiving their graduation certificates, the fifth graders in the Flying Dragon Class had to earn their place on stage by organizing and crafting one final presentation to showcase the culmination of their accomplishments during their journey at Cornerstone.

In the process of creating their final presentations, each student selected a topic of their choice to develop a hypothesis, which they had to research about and put together into a well-organized presentation. Each topic the students chose was directly related to their experience studying abroad in Taiwan. Topics students chose included a comparison of the health benefits of fruits versus vegetables, a comparison of the medical systems in Taiwan and the United States, a comparison of sports culture in Taiwan versus the United States, a study on humanity’s exploration of extreme environments as demonstrated by the discovery of the Mariana Trench, a study on impact of jet lag on the body and possible solutions to combat jet lag, an exploration of the possibility of extraterrestrial life forms in outer space, an analysis of the importance of adopting an open-minded approach to learning and the benefits of a multicultural education, and a report on how age influences the learning of a new language and how it enhances our cognitive abilities.

Upon completion of their research, each fifth grade student presented their findings to the teachers, students, and family members of the Full Day second to fourth grade classes. Each presentation was followed by a Q&A session and the fifth graders were challenged to support their findings. Afterwards, to celebrate their success, the Flying Dragon Class celebrated with a graduation trip to Great America. While the process for preparing for this final presentation presented its own set of challenges, it ultimately resulted in a newfound maturity and sense of agency in our graduating students as they prepared to face graduation. We wish each graduating student good luck and best wishes as they bravely embrace the multitude of learning opportunities that await them in their future endeavors!
