For the fourth consecutive year, our 5th-grade students embarked on a life-changing journey to Taiwan. This isn't just a trip; it is a hallmark of our sister-school exchange program—a two-week immersion designed to turn students into global citizens. By stepping out of the classroom and into the vibrant culture of Taiwan, our students experienced a transformation that only firsthand discovery can provide.
Lessons That Live Beyond the Classroom
Our students returned with a genuinely expanded worldview. From the sacred quiet of the Jing Si Abode to the historic treasures of the National Palace Museum, they moved far beyond the pages of a textbook. Through the grace of tea ceremonies and the discipline of traditional martial arts, they gained a deep, lived understanding of mindfulness, community responsibility, and simplicity. Their seamless communication with local families is a remarkable testament to the strength of our school’s Chinese language program and the fruits of the students' hard work and dedication.
Courage in Every Step
What made us truly proud was the effort and heart our students poured into every moment. They didn’t just observe; they leaned into the unfamiliar. Whether they were performing with passion at the International Education Carnival in front of the entire Tzu Chi school community or navigating the natural hurdles of homesickness, they rose to the occasion. Every challenge was met with a growing sense of resilience and a level of courage that moved us all.
A Truly Irreplaceable Experience
This was the furthest thing from a sightseeing tour. Our students lived the authentic Taiwanese life. The depth of this immersion—cultural, personal, and communal—is what makes this program so unique. While they all traveled together, no two students took away the same lesson, and that is the true beauty of this exchange.
They came as 5th graders eager for an adventure, but they returned as confident young leaders with the world in their hearts.
