Last Saturday, February 21st, the Cornerstone campus was transformed into a sea of red and gold for our annual Chinese New Year celebration. This cherished tradition was a beautiful showcase of student leadership and cultural immersion, with every classroom and corner of the school adorned with art projects and student work that reflected the creativity and hard work of our children.
The heart of the event was driven by our students, who led vibrant performances and hosted various language and culture-infused activities they designed themselves. Guests had the opportunity to sample delicious Chinese glutinous rice balls (tang yuan), which were handmade by the children during their recent classroom cooking projects. In a proud display of their learning, each student presented their work to their parents, explaining their process and the valuable lessons gained. As a token of appreciation, teachers rewarded their efforts with traditional red envelopes.
Adding to the community spirit, our Grade 2–5 student council members organized a hot chocolate and bake sale booth to fundraise for their upcoming projects. A particularly moving highlight this year was a deeply personal project where each student reflected on the origin and roots of their own name, captured in a special video compilation. This exploration of identity, combined with families sharing their unique New Year traditions, made the event a true celebration of our diverse community. It was a wonderful day of tradition and cultural pride that perfectly defines the spirit of Cornerstone.
