This year, Cornerstone’s Chinese New Year Celebration took place on Saturday, February 1. Despite the rainy weather, the Cornerstone community gathered at our Manuela Campus to joyfully celebrate the Year of the Snake.
In the weeks leading up to the celebration, each student worked diligently to create an enjoyable experience for their guests. Student work displays were prominently featured throughout the campus, and students proudly shared their assignments and learning process with their families. This became a collaborative process, as families scanned QR codes which led to questionnaires about the students’ learning, prompting students to orally respond to the questions about their work while their family members filled in the questionnaires in exchange for special red envelopes from our teachers!
Our students also hosted interactive booths where guests participated in a variety of cultural activities such as writing New Year blessings, creating clear vase bookmarks, joining a balloon relay, getting fortunes told with fortune-telling sticks, making Year of the Snake buttons, and capturing memories at our themed photo backdrop.
A highlight of this year’s celebration was the Student Council’s initiative to host a bake sale to raise funds for their future activities. Entirely student-organized, the bake sale involved students volunteering for different shifts, creating a detailed schedule, and running the booth throughout the event. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they successfully raised over $700! This impressive achievement showcased not only their organizational skills, but also their commitment to supporting their school community.
Throughout the day, families enjoyed delicious tang yuan handmade by our students and baked goods purchased from the Student Council bake sale while enjoying all of the student-led activities and the festive atmosphere. Families particularly enjoyed watching video footage of each student sharing their well-wishes for the New Year and special live class performances in the Sanctuary, where students proudly showcased what they had been learning in class in honor of the New Year.
Traditionally, the Year of the Snake symbolizes wisdom, transformation, and resilience—qualities that were reflected in both the spirit of our celebration and the way our community adapted to and embraced the rainy weather. The celebration was a heartwarming display of community, culture, and student creativity, leaving families with cherished memories and a joyful start to the Year of the Snake. We wish everyone a year filled with growth, insight, and prosperity!
