We had an incredibly insightful lunch meeting with Nobel Laureate Dr. Myron Scholes last Friday, May 15. Our students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions throughout the discussion. In return, Dr. Scholes shared valuable wisdom, leaving the students with several meaningful takeaways as they prepare for middle school.
First, he encouraged them to actively absorb knowledge and build a deep foundation, reminding them that curiosity is the key to deepening one's learning. He also spoke about the importance of embracing uncertainty, explaining that without it, life would become stagnant and our growth severely limited. Furthermore, Dr. Scholes emphasized the value of patience and persistence. When a first attempt does not succeed, he noted, students should pivot and keep trying, always maintaining a clear objective and purpose behind their actions.
To close the session, Principal Wong asked, “As our students head into middle school, how can they use their ability to understand different perspectives to make a positive impact on the community and their own personal growth?” His response was both practical and inspiring: he strongly encouraged the students to continue learning Chinese. He emphasized that maintaining bilingual skills does more than just keep their minds open to different perspectives—it significantly strengthens intellectual development, sharpens memory, and serves as an invaluable tool for acquiring new knowledge across many fields in the future.
It was a truly memorable experience that gave our students much to reflect on as they prepare to take ownership of their next chapter!
