1st Graders' Learning about Biomimicry

Friday, May 1st, our 1st graders enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo. During the visit, students participated in a specialized lesson using live carnivorous plants as a model for study. After observing how these plants capture their prey, the children worked in teams to design their own Hexbug traps in an engaging engineering challenge.

It was a joy to see the plant and animal concepts we’ve studied over the last two months come to life. Beyond the curriculum, we observed significant growth in our students: they displayed impressive physical stamina, supported one another with kind reminders, and practiced excellent self-control on the playground. It was truly a day defined by curiosity, teamwork, and maturity.
