3rd Graders' Learning about Sand Erosion

Our 3rd-grade students were very excited to complete their very first field trip on September 19! During the trip, students learned about how a model can demonstrate sand erosion. Students were worked in groups, testing different materials—like rocks, plants, nets, and plastic waste-to see which best reduced the erosion. They measured the sand before and after using a blower to simulate wind, recorded their results, and compared effectiveness. During a final discussion, the students were encouraged to think about real-life applications: for example, when walking to the beach, is it better to follow an already-made path or to step directly on the sand and plants? Afterward, they cleaned up, enjoyed lunch and games at a nearby park, and returned to school for afternoon lessons. What a fun and meaningful day!
