Third grade is a milestone year for many young learners in their educational journey, as it marks their transition from emerging elementary students beginning their school experience to more seasoned students, ready to tackle more complex concepts. One of the many milestones the Hawk Class experienced was through their three-day overnight field trip to Pigeon Point from April 10 to April 12, which was the first overnight experience away from home for many of the students. Through the course of the students’ three days at Pigeon Point, the students not only learned valuable facts about the natural world, but also developed stronger personal skills such as independence, self-discipline, and self-resilience. While at Pigeon Point, the students observed the natural ecosystem of Pigeon Point, waded into the tidepools, and went on nature hikes to observe different animals and study plants. The students were even in charge of preparing all of their own meals while on this trip! It was amazing to see the growth the students showed on this trip. The students who left for Pigeon Point were not the same group who returned to Cornerstone after this unforgettable experience.
