The fourth graders in the Koi Class certainly didn’t shy away from blood and gore when they went on their field trip to the Palo Alto Junior Museum on October 18 to dissect sheep hearts. During their field trip, the students learned about the different parts of the heart and how to utilize surgical tools to make precise dissections. The students were challenged to follow the instructor’s guidance, listening attentively to the explanations provided so that they could duplicate the task. When it came time for the students to dissect their own sheep heart, they showed great teamwork in completing the task while demonstrating a keen sense of scientific curiosity. Without a doubt, this experience will be one that the students will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
