4th Graders Learning About How Eyes Work

On October 17th, the 4th graders in the Koi Class took a fascinating trip to the Palo Alto Junior Museum, where they dove into the science of sight by dissecting real cow eyes. Working in small groups, students explored the major parts of the mammalian eye in a hands-on lesson they won’t soon forget.

At first, some students were understandably squeamish about handling preserved eyes. But with curiosity and courage, they pushed past their initial hesitation. By the end of the activity, they were confidently identifying eye structures and discussing their functions like young scientists.

Not only did the class gain a deeper understanding of how eyes work, but they also walked away with a powerful lesson: facing your fears can lead to unexpected growth. It was truly an eye-opening experience—both literally and figuratively!
