Physical fitness and good sportsmanship are essential for students to develop in order to become well-rounded individuals. To encourage students to put these skills into practice, Cornerstone collaborated with our physical education teacher to host Sports Day for our Full Day K-5 students and families on April 26 at the Arrillaga Family Gymnasium. In the leadup to Sports Day, students were divided into eight separate teams, each led by a student in the fifth grade class. Each team leader was responsible for leading their team in coming up with a team cheer, which they performed during Sports Day. The students, families, and teachers then engaged in friendly competition in various different physical activities such as a sack race, three-legged race, hula dome dodgeball competition, and oversized clothing relay race. Family members even got to compete in a coach versus parents basketball game. Throughout the event, community members were encouraged to keep an eye out for examples of good sportsmanship and vote for teams who they felt displayed the best sportsmanship throughout the day. Sports Day concluded with an award ceremony, honoring the teams who displayed the best sportsmanship. We relish opportunities in the future to continue to bring our community together!
