Kindergartners' Learning About Rainforest

The Hippo Class went on a field trip to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo on Friday, May 10 as part of their study of the rainforest. While at the Palo Alto Junior Museum, the students were introduced to a variety of animals that inhabit the rainforest, including a python, giant cockroaches and chameleons. It was a thrilling experience for the students to see and interact with the actual animals they had been learning about in class! As part of this rainforest adventure, the students also learned about different foods which have their origins from the rainforest, many of which they encounter on a regular basis at their local grocery store! They munched on pieces of coconut, banana, and chocolate and sampled some refreshing guava juice. Who knew a part of the rainforest was so close to home? It just goes to show the importance of interactive hands-on activities to enhance students’ life experiences.
